Event Description
THINKING TOGETHER ABOUT LOCAL FOOD SECURITY
Hanging Gardens, Llanidloes, Monday 14 September,7:00
What if food became much more expensive, harder to find, or less reliable?
Join us at Hanging Gardens, Llanidloes, on Monday 14 September , 7pm for an evening with Daphne Du Cros, food policy researcher, Marches farmer, and Director of the Shropshire Good Food Partnership.
Whilst we live in a farming community, that does not mean our food is secure. Most of what we eat still depends on long supply chains, transport, fuel, energy and imports. Recent years have shown how quickly those systems can be disrupted by extreme weather, rising costs, conflict, cyber attacks and delays.
So how prepared are we?
Daphne will explore what food resilience means in practice, sharing practical examples from across the UK of how households, farmers, shops, cafés, food banks, councils and community groups can work together so everyone can access good food, even when times are difficult.
This talk is for anyone who cares about local food, rising costs, community wellbeing, and how Llanidloes looks after itself in difficult times. We have a strong tradition of mutual support. This evening is a chance to build on this strength, ask what we can do now, and make sure we are better prepared to face future food shocks together.
