Places for Nature in Powys

Llyn Coed y Dinas Nature Reserve
Nature Reserve River Lake Welshpool

Cared for by Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, this nature reserve is located just off the Welshpool bypass. A fantastic home for all sorts of wildlife, the wheelchair-accessible site has a large bird-hide overlooking its lake - a fantastic place to watch native and migrant water-birds. The reserve also has a good sized car park, a picnic area and a children's nature play area.

Created from a gravel pit, quarried to provide material for the creation of the Welshpool bypass, Llyn Coed y Dinas is a fantastic home for all sorts of wildlife. Some of these call the reserve home all year round, while others visit at specific times of the year, either to breed and raise their young or to shelter from the winter weather. Some prefer to use the site as a “wildlife service station”, dropping in for a rest and a meal before heading off elsewhere.
