26 February 2026 Community Energy Wales (C.E.W.)

C.E.W. presents a manifesto outlining their vision and priorities for the community energy sector in Wales up to 2026. The manifesto emphasizes the vital role of community energy in driving a just and sustainable energy transition, empowering local communities, and contributing to Wales’ climate and social goals.

Key Themes and Priorities Empowering Communities: Support for community-led energy projects that enable local ownership, control, and benefits. Recognition of community energy as a tool for social inclusion, economic development, and energy democracy. Energy Local Llanidloes 2026

Energy Local Llanidloes 2026

Climate and Environmental Impact: Community energy as a critical contributor to Wales’ net-zero targets. Welsh Government needs great promotion of renewable energy generation, energy efficiency, and local energy solutions that reduce carbon emissions.

Policy and Regulatory Support: Calls for supportive policies, funding, and regulatory frameworks that remove barriers and enable community energy growth. Advocacy for fair access to the energy market and grid infrastructure. How can this be done? Watch out for projects near you!. (Editor)

Economic and Social Benefits: Highlighting the role of community energy in creating local jobs, skills development, and keeping energy revenues within communities. Addressing fuel poverty and energy affordability through community initiatives. There is much potential here but not one size fits all. Wales needs C.E.W. for an oversight of expertise in delivering as well as active learning from projects across Wales.

Collaboration and Capacity Building: Encouraging partnerships between communities, local authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders.

Investment in training, knowledge sharing, and capacity building to strengthen the sector.

Innovation and Future Opportunities: Embracing new technologies and approaches, such as smart grids, energy storage, and demand-side management.

Positioning community energy as a key player in Wales’ energy future.

Vision for 2026: CEW envisions a thriving community energy sector that is fully integrated into Wales’ energy system, delivering widespread social, economic, and environmental benefits. The manifesto calls on government, funders, and partners to commit to this vision and work collaboratively to achieve it.
