What happens to collected waste from Powys?

In 2020/21 Powys recycled 66% of its waste, saving £4 million, and avoiding 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Recycling Collections

If you are unsure about the collection day for your bin or recycling containers, use the checker on this page

  • Put out your bin and recycling containers by 7:30am on your collection day.
  • Recycling and food waste is collected weekly.
  • Wheelie bins and purple bags are collected 3-weekly.

How can I dispose of bulky furniture?

Threa are two organisations in Powys collecting household items to be donated to people in Powys who are in need of these items.


Powys Cleaning Service

Powys cleaning service are working alongside the Homelessness Prevention and alleviation team within Powys and are looking for unwanted recyclable household items (in good clean order) to donate to people in Powys who are vulnerable or less privileged.

Collection is free of charge.

Phoenix Furniture Collection Scheme

Phoenix is a registered non-profit making charity. They collect donated furniture, household goods and electrical items from the public. These are then cleaned and sorted before being passed on to Powys residents in need of low-cost furniture.
