Energy efficient homes reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills

Did you know that, surprisingly, keeping warm, reducing emissions and reducing costs, can sometimes work together. We all deserve to have somewhere dry, warm, safe and cosy to live - it is a basic need in life. For various reasons, some don't have this, and others are finding it harder to afford to heat their homes. So asking people you to lower your household carbon emissions might seem unreasonable.

We all use energy to heat and cool our homes, to heat water and power our appliances and devices, and around 21% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from our homes.

We will share ideas on how to save money on bills and reduce your carbon footprint. Ideas on being more energy efficient, insulating your home to keep the heat in, switching to a green tariff, or generating your own renewable energy. We'll post the best information we can find here, as well as the good suggestions you send in!

There are efficiencies in the production of our power that have not been taken advantage of yet, and we can all lobby for more renewables. There is a lot more potential for renewable generation to expand and power our country. Research has shown that most people in the UK support renewable energy for electricity, heat and fuel, and this support has remained relatively unchanged since 2012. In 2012, 79 percent of respondents were supportive of the use of renewable energy, while just five percent were opposed. In March of 2021, the survey showed that this figure has not changed, and support has been consistently over 75 percent.
